A thesaurus of mathematics
Introduction
thesaurus.maths.org has grown from a proposal made by the
NRICH project at the University of
Cambridge, to develop an online dictionary of mathematics to support its
other online publications.
Presently the thesaurus contains definitions of
4002 concepts, with
14583 cross-references between concepts. It is this richness of crossreferencing
which leads us to call the project a thesaurus of mathematics; it is much
more than an alphabetical list of words and their definitions.
At present the thesaurus contains definitions only in English. However,
we are soon going to develop thesaurus content in a number of European
languages, using funding from the EU.
Disclaimer
The thesaurus is provided in good faith; we hope that it will prove useful
and informative. However, we can make no guarantee about the accuracy or
reliability of its contents, nor do we take responsibility for its
suitability for any particular purpose.
Contribute
The thesaurus at present has only one full-time employee. New definitions,
images and applets are being added daily, and the existing content needs
to be checked and refined. You can help:
suggest a new definition.
