Connecting Mathematics
This site contains brief explanations of mathematical terms and ideas in English, Danish, Finnish, Hungarian, Lithuanian, Polish, Slovak. We have also made a start on Spanish. Go to the preferences page to choose your language(s) and level of explanation.
Mathematical ideas are linked to others using 5 types of link:
- Broader
- A link to a broader - more general or more encompassing - idea.
- Narrower
- A link to a narrower - more specific - term.
- References
- A link to a term used in explaining this idea.
- ReferencedBy
- Links to ideas which build on this one
- See Also
- Just that - a link to something relevant to this term.
You can either navigate the site by following the links on each page, or, if you
have the Sun Java plugin, you can use our graph browser. This allows you to see ideas
that are up to 3 links away.
If you drag our mbutton to your bookmarks or links toolbar, the site will always be available
to assist you when reading other mathematics sites on the internet. The first picture shows how to do this in Netscape or Mozilla.
In Internet Explorer, the Links toolbar is often on the right as shown in the second picture - but it may be elsewhere as its position is configurable. It may also look
like a menu bar rather than a button.
You will find thumbnails linked to all the illustrated entries in these media galleries:
