Definition Niveau 1

A map is a plan that shows where things are in relation to each other. It is useful for planning routes between places.

Definition Niveau 2

A rule that connects the members of one set with the members of another set.
There are four main types of mapping. They are:
one to one mappings;
many to one mappings;
one to many mappings;
many to many mappings.
A mapping diagram is used to show a mapping.

Definition Niveau 2

Given two sets A and B, a map between them, m, can be given any element of A as argument and will give an element of B. This is written m : Ab . We say that m is a map from A to B.
A map does not necessarily 'use' every element of B; and some elements of B may be used more than once.
