Siméon Denis Poisson (1781-1840): A French mathematician, most often remembered for the Poisson distribution, which is named after him. He also worked on definite integrals, and Fourier series, as well as electricity, magnetism, astronomy, and mechanics. Many things in mathematics are named after him, for instance Poisson brackets, Poisson's integral.
