A part of a group, which is also a group in its own right.

Definition (advanced level)

Let the set G with the operation ° form a group. H with ° is a subgroup of G with ° (normally written as "H is a subgroup of G", or H ≤ G) if H is a subset of G and satisfies the axioms for a group under the operation °.
