Definition (keystage 2)
A criss-cross pattern of lines that is formed when one set of parallel lines cuts across another set of parallel lines.
Often the sets of parallel lines are equally spaced and at right angles to each other, but not always so.

Definition (keystage 3)
The set of intersection points of two different sets of equally-spaced parallel lines.
A set of points whose positions can be written as sums of whole-number multiples of two different vectors (or three different vectors, in 3D).
An example is the set of points (0,0), (0,1), (1,0), (0,2), (1,1), (2,0), etc...
The word lattice is often also used to mean the set of straight lines joining such a set of points.
