Ton   (English)

Note (keystage 2)

Not to be confused with Tonne, the metric unit of mass.

Definition (keystage 2)

An imperial measure of mass.
A ton is very large amount, often used to measure out coal, potatoes and other large quantities.
There are twenty hundredweights, 2240 pounds, in every ton.
An American ton is only 2000 pounds.

Definition (keystage 3)

An Imperial unit of mass; 2240lb (2000lb in America)
