Definition (keystage 1)

The number of years following the birth of Jesus Christ. AD is abbreviated from Anno Domini, in the year of the Lord.
For example:
St. Patrick began his mission in Ireland 432 AD; in 1000 AD Ericsson discovered America; the Battle of Agincourt took place in 1415 AD; Sir Francis Drake began his voyage around the world in 1577 AD; in 1847 AD the British Museum was opened; colour television began in Britain on BBC-2 in 1967 AD.
