Cylinder   (English)

Definition (keystage 1)

Usually: a solid, whose ends are two parallel circles of equal size and which are joined together by a curved surface.
Tins of food are good examples of cylinders.
In fact, the ends of the cylinder do not have to be circles; they can be any shape that has no corners, as long as they are parallel and both the same shape.

Definition (keystage 3)

A solid, whose ends are two parallel circles of equal size and which are joined together by a curved surface.
Tins of food are good examples of cylinders.

Definition (advanced level)

A solid with two identical parallel plane faces, and one curved face. If the line joining the centres of the plane face is perpendicular to the plane faces, it is a right cylinder.
If the plane faces are circles, it is a circular cylinder.
