Definition (keystage 2)

Memory is some system that is able to store and retrieve information. Computer memory systems may use semiconductor, magnetic or optical devices for various long or short term storage purposes. We can memorise things in our heads, or we can write them down to read later.

Example (keystage 2)

The memory key on a calculator allows you to store the number in the display. Later, you can retrieve that number by pressing the memory recall key.
