We are very grateful to developers of packages that have enabled us to build this site - and especially to those who have released their code under open source licences so allowing us to build on and customise their work. These include, but are not limited to:
- The Apache Project - for Tomcat, Struts, Velocity and many other open source library packages. Also vital to the project management was the Apache Ant build tool.
- CVS for software version control.
- HSQLDB - a java only open source database included in distributions.
- Simper - a simple persistence layer for web database access in java.
- Our graph browser is based on the TGLB from TouchGraph.
- MySQL - a fast database used on this server.
- The Eclipse IDE - a powerful java development environment freely available from IBM
- The LiveGraphics3D applet from Martin Kraus.
- TeX and LaTeX - the programs by Donald Knuth and Leslie Lamport for mathematics capable typesetting.
- TtM and tth for TeX to XHTML/MathML and TeX to HTML conversion from Ian Hutchinson. Mozilla and Design Science for good working implementations of MathML in the commonly used browsers.
- UniReD - Windows unicode editor, which proved to be invaluable in sorting out many character encoding issues.
- Java J2SDK from Sun
- Perl - used heavily during development to provide quick solutions to many small problems.
